God named Ishmael ‘God hears’ before he was born. Years later, God heard Ishmael’s cry when he was perishing in the wilderness and opened his mother’s eyes to see a spring of water from which she gave him drink – and he lived!
Islam claims Ishmael as a spiritual forefather. Today’s
Muslims are in the wilderness perishing and crying out for living water. Let the Church pray to the Father to reveal the well of living water, Jesus, so they might live!
Ask of Me
The Lord woke me early this morning with a phrase from Psalm 2: “Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your heritage.” In my English Standard Version, this psalm is entitled, The Reign of the Lord's Anointed. “Anointed” is equivalent to “Messiah,” or “Christ.” Last week, the GHPL focused on reminding us who is seated on the throne. This week, let’s pray through Psalm 2 about the reign of King Jesus.
1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
3 “Let us burst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”
Lord, You alone are Almighty God and You reign. You have established Your Son as the Chief Cornerstone who cannot be burst apart, and faith in Him as the cord that binds us to salvation. We pray for even the kings of the Islamic world to choose to bind themselves to Your Son, Jesus, whose name means “God is Salvation” (Ac 4:12).
4 He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
5 Then He will speak to them in His wrath,
and terrify them in His fury, saying,
6 “As for Me, I have set My King on Zion, My holy hill.”
Almighty God, You hold the keys to death and hell – we fear You alone (Rev 1:18, Mt 10:28). We know Your desire is that none should perish (Jn 3:16, 2 Pe 3:9), so we pray for Muslims to choose to bow before Your King on Zion, Your holy hill, before the day of Your wrath, when everyone must bow.
7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to Me,
“You are My Son; today I have begotten You.
8 Ask of Me, and I will make the nations Your heritage,
and the ends of the earth Your possession.
Father, we ask You for the captives in the house of Islam as an inheritance for Your Son. We declare with heaven that He alone is worthy of praise from all the tribes and languages and peoples and nations He has purchased with His atoning blood (Rev 4:11; 5:9, 12-13)!
9 You shall break [rule] them with a rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.”
10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son,
lest He be angry, and you perish in the way,
for His wrath is quickly kindled.
Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.
Our Rock and Redeemer, You are our refuge and strong tower – we run into Your name and are saved (Pr 18:10). Lord, help Your people to comprehend the current urgency of the ancient message of Psalm 2. You are the beautiful Desire of Nations to whom all the treasures of the nations will come (Hag 2:7, see ESV and NKJV). Silver and gold mean nothing to You; it’s human hearts You desire. We pray Your heart’s desire for the nations will become our heart’s desire. We call the Muslim world to choose to “kiss the Son” and enter into the blessings of Your refuge.
