Preparing a Highway of Love

June 11, 2020

An intercessor reported last week that as she began to pray for Muslim people, she heard the Lord say, “Stop seeing people by what they do or what they wear or their ethnic group. See people as I see them; they are My people. As you pray, I will show you their heart.” She then was led to meditate on 2 Corinthians 5:18-20: All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”

When she asked the Lord specifically how to pray, He led her to 2 Corinthians 5:14: “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died”. She writes, “It rose up in my spirit to pray and prepare a Highway of Love in the Spirit that would lead them. His love will compel them to come to Jesus.” In her spirit she saw “Muslim people stream down this highway compelled by God's love. The cloths of Islam were falling off as they ran down the highway, men, women and children. They were running, they were free, because they are reconciled to Christ.” (“Cloths” represent their Islamic identity and values.)

As our prayer group prayed into what she had seen and heard and understood, she heard the Lord again, this time giving the instruction to sing over the Highway of Love so that the people running down the highway are compelled by Jesus’ love and not distracted.

Do you find this a strange idea? Zephaniah prophesies over rebellious Jerusalem that “the Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing” (Zeph 3:17).

There is also a biblical record of singing bringing about a supernatural victory. (Actually, obedience to the Lord’s instruction brought the victory, but the instruction was to sing.) King Jehoshaphat, facing a vast army, listened to a prophet and appointed singers to lead the army, praising and giving thanks to God. “And when they began to sing and praise, the Lord set an ambush against the men…who had come against Judah, so that they were routed” (2 Chr 20:21-22).

Highways are prophesied in scripture. A Highway will link Egypt, Assyria and Israel in worship (Isa 19:23). A highway leading to Zion will be called the Way of Holiness; it will be for [the redeemed] who walk on that Way” (Isa 35:8). In a passage about His salvation reaching the ends of the earth, Jesus talks about making mountains a road and raising highways (Isa 49:6, 11).

Compelled by Christ’s love, as if God were making His appeal through us, let’s pray to prepare a Highway of Love on which Muslim men, women and children will run because they are compelled by Christ’s love. Let’s declare that their Islamic identity will fall off them as they run toward Christ with no distractions into the identity given them by Him who sees and hears them and answers their hearts’ cry.

Here are some songs to sing over them as they run:
